TVS Raider: TVS Raider, the Chennai-based manufacturer’s aggressive play in the 125cc segment, has emerged as its biggest-selling motorcycle, surpassing even the established Apache series. This phenomenal rise, within just two years, has shaken up the Indian motorcycle market and redefined TVS’s position in the segment.

Dominating the 125cc Battlefield:

The Raider’s success can be quantified by the impressive sales figures. According to official SIAM data, TVS sold a staggering 3,98,354 units of the Raider between April and January of the current fiscal year, marking a significant jump from the 1,78,040 units sold in the same period last year. This translates to an average of nearly 40,000 units sold every month, a testament to the Raider’s widespread appeal.

To put this dominance into perspective:

  • The Raider has outsold all of TVS’s 100-110cc motorcycles combined (2,95,482 units), including the Star City, Radeon, and Sport. This signifies a significant shift in consumer preferences towards the more powerful and feature-rich Raider.
  • The Raider has even surpassed the Apache series, previously TVS’s flagship motorcycle brand, in terms of sales. In the last fiscal year, TVS registered total Apache sales of 2,81,476 units, which grew to 3,14,018 units this year (including the 310s). This growth, however, pales in comparison to the Raider’s meteoric rise.
  • Interestingly, the Raider’s 10-month sales figures (April-January) exceed the combined sales of all Honda’s 100-110cc motorcycles (including the Shine 100) during the same period. This highlights the Raider’s ability to capture market share from established players like Honda.

Table: TVS Raider Sales vs. Others (Apr-Jan 2023-24)

Motorcycle Units Sold
TVS Raider 3,98,354
All Apaches 3,14,018
All TVS 100-110cc 2,95,482
All Honda 100-110cc 2,85,617

Beyond the Numbers: A Broader Impact

The Raider’s success extends beyond its impressive sales figures. It has established TVS as a serious contender in the highly competitive 125cc segment, previously dominated by Hero MotoCorp. This shift in the market landscape is likely to trigger a response from rivals, particularly Hero MotoCorp, who may need to adapt their strategies to counter the rising popularity of the Raider.

The TVS Ntorq 125: A Complementary Success Story

Adding to TVS’s triumph in the two-wheeler market is the remarkable performance of the Ntorq 125 scooter. This dynamic offering has carved a niche for itself in the 125cc scooter segment, further solidifying TVS’s position in the market.

The Road Ahead: A Future Filled with Potential

The combined success of the Raider and Ntorq 125 paints a bright picture for TVS. As the company continues to innovate and cater to evolving consumer demands, it is well-positioned to maintain its momentum and solidify its place as a leading player in the Indian two-wheeler market. The future remains exciting for TVS, and the company is poised to continue its winning streak with groundbreaking products and strategic marketing initiatives.
