Upcoming Skoda SUV: Skoda India is preparing to launch a sub-4-metre SUV in the Indian market by the end of 2024. Based on the MQB A0 IN architecture, this car will be the first sub-4-meter SUV from a European brand in India. Recently the new Skoda SUV was spotted during a test run and the spy video has revealed many new details about the design of the SUV.

What will be the name

This upcoming SUV can be named Kwiq, Kyroq, Kymaq, Kariq and Kylaq as Skoda is running an online contest ‘Name Your Skoda’ for the same. In the domestic market, it will compete with cars like Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon and Nissan Magnite.

Design and look

Looking at the spy video, Skoda’s signature styling elements can be clearly seen in the SUV along with its minimalist approach. The road presence of the new Skoda SUV looks trendy with contours and creases. The front-end features a mustache grille with a split headlamp setup, as seen on the Kushaq. The dual-pod LED headlamps come with turn indicators/LED DRLs at the top. Some other design highlights captured in the video include the cleanly carved lower bumper, large ORVMs with integrated turn indicators, large honeycomb lower grille and clamshell bonnet.

The side profile shows a thick C-pillar with roof rails and body cladding. The rear looks like the Volkswagen Taigun with C-shaped LED tail lamps. However, the indicators and reverse lights appear to be halogen units.

Specification

The spied SUV was seen with covered steel wheels shod with section 205 tyres. Apart from this, many special elements like rear defogger, washer and wiper were not visible. It also doesn’t have a sunroof feature, which shows that it is a mid-level trim. An all-digital instrument cluster is seen inside the cabin along with a large touchscreen infotainment system.

Technical details of the new SUV are not yet available in the public domain, but we expect it to be equipped with a 1.0 liter turbocharged petrol engine with 113 bhp of maximum power and 178 Nm of peak torque. 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic unit may be available for its gearbox.
